Upstate New York has always been one of my favorite getaways. A quick 5 hour commute from Maryland to Roscoe, NY puts you right on the best fishing on the east coast. This past weekend we fished the East Branch of the Upper Delaware River and the Beaverkill. Staying with friends at the Beaver-Del Campground was a perfect location and a well manage site. I tied a bunch of October caddis only to find very few hatching. However, other caddis hatches, sulfurs and a few isonychia came off early morning and between 6:30-8 each evening. As the norm, once those hatches start it’s showtime! You better be ready with appropriate dry flies in both color variation and size. Plenty of nice size fish rising and yet quite selective…..yes we caught some but not many!
Although the fishing was good, the camaraderie of my friends, talking fishing and tackle, casting cane rods on the campsite grass and enjoying a few cold beverages made it an awesome trip.
