Sam grew up in North Central Pennsylvania spending his youth fishing Pine Creek and its many tributaries. He taught himself how to fly fish and began tying flies for his personal use.
After obtaining a BS degree in Recreation and Resource Management, Sam became a Park Ranger at Lake Sonoma, CA, and eventually returned to the East Coast, settling down in Maryland.
Sam also had a lifelong fondness for woodworking. What started out as a hobby, turned into a business, making furniture and interior décor. In 2022, woodworking and fly fishing merged, and RockSpring Nets was born.
Disappointed by the comfort and quality of the nets on the market, Sam decided to build a landing net for himself. He found an oval-shaped handle to be the most comfortable and offer exceptional control; however, this added mass and weight. To counter this, he developed a patent pending design that reduced the weight below that of most carbon fiber/fiberglass nets of the same size. Stop by and see for yourself the quality and style of these exceptional landing nets.
